Fifteen-year-old Boy and his father, Da, live in a fenced compound in the snow-bound forests of the far-north where they must be constantly on guard against predatory humanoid mutants—the Outliers. The pair are the last humans alive in a post-apocalyptic world, at least according to Da. Yet they’re happy being alone; they’ve accepted their circumstances. 

But their entire existence is based on lies.

When Boy encounters a hybrid creature--half-human, half Outlier, a girl close to his own age--he starts questioning all he has ever believed. Seeking answers to what has become of the civilization neither has ever known, Boy and Girl venture south, seeking a better life. What they discover is a world far worse than the one they came from. 

Their only salvation: escape and flee back to the far-north, back to the perilous land of the cannibalistic Outliers… if such an undertaking is even possible.
